They’re filming part of a new Jeff Bridges movie, R.I.P.D., in Boston’s Downtown financial district.  We happened through the area last weekend, so we got to see a lot of work being done as the film crew got ready to shoot a car scene.  And that’s when I saw this:

It’s the Ultimate Arm Car, and chances are you’ve watched a few movies that utilized its camera-handling skills. This Porsche Cayenne Turbo is completely blacked-out in a matte black to prevent any glares or reflections from the car showing up on camera. Other features include a custom tail flap to keep dirt and debris from kicking up and oh yeah, a giant gyroscopic jib mounted to the roof.

The camera equipment alone on this car has to cost about $100,000

Ultimate Arm car driver – that doesn’t sound like a bad gig! Where can I put in my application for that job?

We made it to Cambridge & are finally settled in our own apartment.  You know what that means – time for Jory to get on this job search thing! I found a cool position open at SCNVGR, and as per their request I made a unique cover letter.  I decided to spoof a SCVNGR profile page to illustrate my personality and a few bits of relevant experience.  I used photoshop to create my own SCVNGR badges and Chrome’s web inspector to match the colors off the site.  It was a fun project and a welcome distraction from the job boards; maybe I’ll photoshop all my job applications! 

Since we’re still around to talk about it, you may have already forgotten that the world was supposed to end on May 21.  Associated Press writer & editor Ted Anthony contacted me through our mutual friend Hillary Speed to get my take on the non-apocalypse, and I am just now getting around to sharing the article with you.

As an afterword – I heard through another friend that the new date for the apocalypse is now sometime in Spring 2012.
