Finally Finished!

Back in the fall, I was asked to devise a good-looking way to add lettering to a not-so-good-looking sign.  The signs were metal with a special vinyl coating on them with the windmill design and “Oklahoma Centennial Farm” wording.  As you can see, the original designer of the sign did not intend for it to be personalized, but it was so awkward looking that something had to be done with it.sign one My client wanted to add his family heritage to one sign, for displaying in his barn or home.  He had a long list of people to add, and had a very specific way he wanted it laid out.  The second sign was only to have the farm name and establishment date, and he wanted to post that sign at the entrance to the farm.  In terms of lay out, there wasn’t much I could do.  I used “Oklahoma” for farm name font, and my own sort of font blend for the names.  My real task came in figuring out how to successfully paint a vinyl sign that wasn’t meant to be painted.  I ended up using an outdoor acrylic paint, and a layer of matte spray to prevent yellowing.  I also applied several coats of clear, protective spray paint. The end product turned out well, and the client was very happy. But next time, I’ll advise against painting this type of material :)
